Why I write - Blog Analysis
Welcome to my second blog post, this week we will be analyzing Joan Didion's article "why I write". Like last time, the passage is very personal its the author is asking themselves why they write. The title is interesting because it was borrowed from the Author's professor. Making the author ask themselves why they write. Helping set the story and tone for her journey to become a writer.
Details Details Details , They are crucial when trying to understand anything. Joan Didion pushes this narrative a lot. showing that people experience the world and everything differently. So its extremely important to give people specific's when telling them something. Where she says we understand the world through small things no abstract objects. Showing readers that through those details you can define the identity of whatever your saying or writing.
later in the article she talks about the importance of emotion and tone is in writing. Showing how it helps give a idea life. throughout the story she uses these literary devices to help her creativity really pop out and get her point across. Because emotion helps bring out the authors message and give what there writing an identity and clearly say what its about.
Finally Joan shows us how Grammar can shape your writing. In the article she uses an example of a camera. She's says that depending on the angle of the camera it will effect how people see the photo, the same applies to grammar. How you write something affects how a reader is going to interpret it. She also shows readers that you don't have to follow rules that you were taught in first grade when you write. You can break conventual rules as long as they get your point across the best.
Overall Joan Didion's "why I write" Shows readers that they are in control of there writing showing them how they can use Emotion, tone, and grammar to make there writing stronger. She also emphasizes the importance of detail in writing. Since people experience information differently. She also shows us that writers don't have to always follow the norms of writing.
